The national team should have only one captain in each format

New players like Azam Khan and Saeem Ayub have a lot of talent and are the future of the national team.

Former captain Shahid Afridi has emphasized that full preparations should be made for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Talking to the media in Karachi, Shahid Afridi said that it is not right to consider only the match against India as a competition, as many other good matches are expected. He added that there should be no change in the team combination, and there should be only one captain for the national team in each format.

He said that the World Cup is a test for many players, and senior players will be responsible for it. He further said that to end the narrative of fighting on this issue, only one captain should be made for the Pakistani team, and there should not be a separate leadership for each format. At the same time, the concept of vice-captaincy is also not correct.

Moreover, Shahid Afridi also asserted that the problem of incomplete fielding in the Pakistan cricket team is a long-standing one. Still, apart from fielding, attention should also be paid to bowling and batting.

Afridi added that Pakistan should have won the Test series against Australia and the T20 series against New Zealand, but they did not appear as a unit in those matches. Shahid Afridi also said that new players like Azam Khan and Saeem Ayub have a lot of talent and are the future of the national team. The young players included in the central contract should be given time while their playing opportunities should be properly planned.

Lest players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, or Shaheen Afridi are rested, and there is no substitute for them; the bench of the national team needs to be strengthened so that a good substitute is available when needed.

In the end, Afridi supported Hafeez, saying that he has played a lot of cricket and should give him time as a cricket director.
